Staying away from sodium is the best thing to do, not only if you have high blood pressure, but also if you desire to transform your body to be lean and trim. First and foremost, sodium makes your body retain water; and that is the last thing you want if you want your body to look firm, tight, and lean. When your body retains water, you have that puffy and soft look; and it also can mean the addition of some pounds too. Furthermore, consuming too much sodium will lead to hypertension. Hypertension if not treated by eating effectively and exercising, could lead to kidney disease and other severe health issues.
Be mindful of your sodium consumption. Here are my top five tips for monitoring your sodium intake. 1. Avoid eating out - restaurants prepare meals for taste, which also means lots of sodium 2. Prepare home cooked meals - this will allow you to monitor the sodium in your food. 3. Avoid can goods - can goods are high in sodium to give it a long shelf life. 4. Avoid sauces - soy sauce, ketchup, and other sauces or condiments are high in sodium. 5. Avoid frozen dinners/meals - need I say anything. 6. Limit your consumption of anything in a box or bag - again, excess sodium to extend shelf life.
I encourage you to select whole foods and fresh foods. Prepare your meals at home so that you are always in control of what you are going to consume.
