HELP! I have major digestion issues! It seems no matter what I eat, my body has to work overtime just to digest it-and fails miserably at it! I drink a lot of water and have been eating plenty of fruits and veggies and I workout regularly. I think I may have identified which foods block me up, and I have eliminated them from my diet or I eat much less of them. Diary is not my friend-so no more milk and less cheese (I love cheese, can't give it up). I have been eating less junk food like potato chips which I love. But there is a glimmer of hope- I did well today with digesting and I think it may be due to the fact that I have been eating a lot of fresh cooked veggies and fruits and I started eating foods that are supposed to promote good digestion like dried figs and apricots, cooked cabbage, hummus, and pineapple juice. I also started taking flax seed oil pills-which I think may be helping. So I guess I have to just keep doing what I am doing and wait for the magic to happen! Anyone else struggle with this too?

Workoutwarrior83,
First and foremost, allow me to inform you that you are not alone in your quest for easing your digestion issues. There are many who are facing the same struggle you are facing. I applaud you because you did your own investigating by recording and observing what foods do and do not promote proper digestion in your body. That is key. We all are different, which means our bodies respond differently to various foods; and you have to discover what foods work for you. Continue to observe and record (food journal) what you consume. Sooner or later you will have your blueprint for better digestion. Don't forget, there are dietitians and nutritionist who can provide further assistance to you.

Update!!! Great news!!! I am winning the digestion war!!!! I have found great success with the following: 1) Drinking plenty of water 2) Drinking 100% organic pineapple juice 3) Eating cooked organic/farm fresh veggies such as cabbage, onions, carrots, string beans ( seasoned with olive oil, seal salt and pepper) 4) Eating organic fruits such as pears, grapes, and dried figs and apricots 5) Eating organic/farm fresh sweet potatoes (roasted with olive oil, sea salt and pepper) 6) Eating organic hummus 7) Laying off of foods that I know block me up (milk, cheese, rice, flour, meat, fried stuff, packaged snacks) 8) Taking 2 flaxseed oil supplements everyday (cold pressed organic) 9) Exercising 6 days a week
It has been amazing! For the first time in my life I am going 2 or 3 times a day like I should be! If you are having issues like I did, don't give up hope! You just have to find out what works for your body. Figure out what foods cause you grief, and then cut them out of your diet! It's ok to have a cookie every now and then, but if it causes you problems, then you need to cut back on it. Eating better for better digestion will also help you to lose unwanted pounds and stay lean. I know I NEVER want to go back to the way things used to be, so I'm going to keep up with my healthier eating choices. I hope my story can help others who are battling a losing war with digestion- Don't give up! You can beat it!

Update: Not so good news While my new diet of veggies, fruits, and beans aided in my battle with constipation- it had an adverse effect on the balance of bacteria in my body. I was drinking like 5 cups of pineapple juice everyday and consuming whole fruits and dried fruits that contain a high amount of natural sugars. On top of that, I was eating all kinds of candy and craving more! This overdose in sugar has lead to an increase of bad bacteria in my system (candida) which I am now attempting to rid myself of. How do I know I have an influx of bad bacteria? Well, the list of symptoms include foggy head (dizzy, light headed, can't concentrate), mood swings, constipation, bloating, and the inside of my ears itch. I didn't think that fruit could be bad for you, but in this case it is! Too much sugar has negative effects on the body and I am proof of it. I am laying off of candy and fruit juices for a while. I have done my research, and I know what I should consume now: organic veggies, lentils, eggs, farm raised chicken, wild caught fish, and I am taking a good multi-vitamin and coconut oil which is a super food because it helps with ridding the body of bad bacteria and fungi. I am also taking a probiotic which aids in restoring intestinal health. Also I love taking shots of apple cider vinegar for its healing qualities and am taking olive leaf complex which is an antioxidant. If your body is acting not normal, then it's trying to tell you something! Do your research, and find out ways to naturally treat your condition. What you eat really does matter! I'll report back later with another update, I'm hoping for the best! By the way, I love MoM's organic Market (can be pricey but it's worth it)!!!!!!

workoutwarrior83 Wow...this is a very informative and insightful experience you have just shared. This will defintely help someone out there who is going through a similar scenario. You are a testament of the importance for discovering what works for you. I encourage everyone to find out what works them. There is no "one diet fits all" diet. We must research, journalize, and experiment to see what allows our bodies to full operate at the optimal level, inside and out. Great!
